Greg's VW Service Adopted Highway

Nationwide, millions of volunters will join forces this spring and spruce up their own corners of the world through the Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest grassroots beautification, litter prevention and community improvement program.
Volunteers from Greg's VW Service will step forward to improve Southbound Highway 101, just past the Highway 92 interchange, as part of the Great American Cleanup led nationwide by Keep America Beautiful, Inc.
Greg's VW Volunteers will join millions of volunteers from coast to coast in this call to action for public involvement and participation.
National sponsor's include Pepsi-Cola Company, Wm. Wrigley Jr., Yard-Man by MTD, Georgia-Pacific, Green Forrest, and more. They will supply many gifts for all volunteers. Greg's VW will give each volunteer a T-Shirt commemerating this event and the big Kelley Park event the following weekend.

After weeks of preparation, our Target date was upon us.
We posted on numerous forum boards, sent out many e-mails, and also sent press releases to our local news agencies(ABC-7, KTVU-2, KPIX-5, and KRON-4).
We prepared for a large group to participate. T-shirts were printed, supplies were ordered, banners were hung, and refreshments were purchased.
To add a twist to our Adopt-A-Highway cleanup, we also hid some Easter Eggs the night before. We would not only have a routine litter removal party, but also have an egg hunt to keep things interesting. Three special Eggs were to be found during the Great American Cleanup.
The day started with the group gathering to enjoy coffee, orange juice, pastries, donuts, and energy bars.
After volunteers had a chance to sign in, we handed out helmets, gloves, vests, pick-up tools, and bags.
A short ride out to our site, and the group quickly went to work. We spent about 2 1/2 hours picking up litter, and assembling to take photos. We posed with items supplied by the National Sponsors.
It turned out to be a lovely day, with plenty of
sunshine.
The first hidden egg was found by Kathy Boyle. The remaining 2 were found by Jeff Hurley, and Jason Lang.
The three winners will be treated to Dinner by the host.
Along the way many interesting items were found, including a new pair of unmatching slippers, a magnetic car hat with the number 56, a skeleton Halloween mask, and a rubber toy mouse.
We collected about 45 bags of trash, 3 bags of recyclables, and a number of large items including tires, wood, and a large roll of steel.
At the end of the cleanup session, the volunteers were treated to lunch at Pete's Harbor.
It was a successful day with a major impact made in our own small corner of the world. Definitely a "Feel Good" event for all of our volunteers to be proud of!
I would like to personally Thank everyone that helped make this event possible. You are great friends and a great help!
Thanks for Being There!
